These positions are located in Southern Arizona Office, in the Administrative Division with duty locations at Tonto National Monument, Roosevelt AZ and Montezuma Castle National Monument, Camp Verde, AZ.
Duties
The primary purpose of these positions is to provide assistance to the superintendents and staff of Montezuma Castle & Tuzigoot (Camp Verde), and Tonto National Monument (Roosevelt) with administrative processes, including human resources, acquisition and property management, and other administrative services. The positions are integral members of an administrative team. Along with the Administrative Officer, Budget Analyst, Administrative Specialist, and another Administrative Support Assistant, they will support the managers and employees of the Southern Arizona Group, which includes Montezuma Castle, Tuzigoot and Tonto National Monuments, as well as the Southern Arizona Office.
As the Administrative Support Assistant stationed at either location, the selected candidate will work closely with the park superintendent, serve as a technical assistant for a wide variety of administrative matters at the park, and perform a narrow selection of functions for the Southern Arizona Group. The positions are developmental in nature. The selected candidate will join the team in an entry level (GS-05) capacity and will have the opportunity to learn new skills and advance to the full promotion level of GS-07 in as few as 2 years.
The position will initially be responsible for the following duties:
Serving as the primary timekeeper for the park. Reviewing time and attendance reports for employees and assuring reports are entered correctly. Advising supervisors and employees concerning questions about pay, hours of duty and leave.
Serving as an advisor to park staff on the procurement, and making purchases of supplies, equipment, and services for the unit with a purchase card.
Ensuring that property is appropriately marked to identify it as government property, entering the property information into a tracking system, and participating in property inventories and board of survey proceedings. Tracking property acquisitions, transfers, and disposals, and preparing forms to report and sell excess and surplus property.
The positions may provide support to the Fee Revenue programs in the parks. The selected candidates must follow established accountability guidelines for handling government funds and appointment is subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
The incumbents should expect to build effective working relationships with team members, park superintendents, division managers, park employees and must be effective with their verbal and written communication with NPS personnel and external partners.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/13/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that provided the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include performing administrative functions such as payroll, personnel, travel, procurement, budget, and/or formal correspondence. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours). This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. For example, six months of the specialized experience described in above (50% of the experience requirement), and three years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
