The incumbent performs the duties of a Journeyman Pipefitter while assigned to Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care Systems.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Troubleshoots existing piping systems with regards to performance of building infrastructure and systems in order to assess and perform proper repairs.
Repair, adjust, maintain, and install all types of plumbing and steam fixtures and their allied equipment.
Perform various new installations of plumbing and steam equipment from laying out, ordering materials, roughing-in to finished jobs.
Repair, maintain, adjust, install, and improve all allied equipment for plumbing and heating, such as meters, valves, compressors, pumps, steam traps, grease traps, strainers, reducing valves, heating coils, etc.
Repair, install, and maintain pipe insulation of fiberglass, molded magnesium, cork, and rubber.
Repair and maintain heating, unit heating, which includes piping, convectors, coils, shut off valves, traps, and circulating pumps.
Required to conduct safety and preventative maintenance inspections of utility systems and equipment for those duties herein described in accordance with VA regulations and National Codes where applicable.
Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, manufacturer's literature and specifications for sizing, estimating, installing, and repairing equipment that requires steam or plumbing utility systems.
Communicate with contractors regarding existing issues, repairs, and or new installation of plumbing and/or piping systems.

Physical Requirements: During the performance of duties, incumbent exerts considerable energy in working with hand tools and handling heavy materials. Incumbent is required to crawl in ceilings and work in stooped and squatting positions for prolonged periods. During the performance of duties, incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Incumbent frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, incumbent may lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works under various heating and lighting conditions. When performing work outside, incumbent will be exposed to inclement conditions with temperature ranges from extreme heat to extreme cold. Incumbent will become exposed to dust, grease, insulating material, obnoxious sewer gases, and chemical fumes. Incumbent will be exposed to bums from hot piping, steam, and gas welding torches. Incumbent will be working with gases of explosive or combustion sustaining qualities. Incumbent shall employ good safety practices and procedures to avoid injury to self, other personnel, and/or equipment which may seriously affect the operation of the hospital.
