The position is located in the Housekeeping Section of the Tohatchi Health Center in Tohatchi, NM (a satellite clinic of Gallup Indian Medical Center). The Primary purpose of the position is the maintenance of environmental sanitation within acceptable levels of bacteriological, as wells as visual, cleanliness-throughout the Health Center.
Duties
Vacuums, dusts, mops floors, stairways, corridors, utility rooms, offices, employees' lounges, bathrooms and other assigned areas daily.
Polishes and buffs floors daily with electric floor polishers. Strips and reapplies floor sealer as necessary. Use vacuum cleaner with water equipment attachments for wet floor pickup, floor pickup, floor plumbing overflow and other floor flooding cleaning methods.
Cleans exam rooms in clinics on special cleaning detail as instructed using proper antiseptic techniques.
Implements and maintains a system and insures that standards of quality of laundering are met. Collects soiled linen and carries to laundry and/or debris disposal area.
Cleans rooms after patients have been seen, after clinics are complete or as directed.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupation Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties this position without normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume. Your resume must demonstrate specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience using proper cleaning techniques, prepares cleaning liquids, floor solution, and using prescribe cleaning procedures. Operates different machines such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor polishers, etc. Following procedures to prevent cross-contamination of rooms and in transporting of soiled linens. Knowledgeable in proper cleaning techniques and utilization of special procedures for isolation cleaning.
Note: must have a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Moderate physical effort is required continuously in performance of manual cleaning tasks. Frequently must lift or move objects weighing about 40 pounds; and occasionally objects weighing over SO pounds. Use of heavy powdered cleaning equipment (wall washers,
industrial-type buffers) is required, but not on a continual basis.
WORKING CONDITTONS:
Incumbent usually works indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation. During the winter months work is performed outside when necessary to remove snow/ice from entrance ways. Occasionally, the worker is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., and to serious injuries (e.g., broken bones, electrical shocks, etc.) from falls from ladders, scaffolds and with risk of exposure to contagious disease, radiation, and infection.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
