As a Security Specialist, you will be responsible for serving as the Special Security Officer and managing the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. You will develop and implement policies, plans, procedures, standards, training, and methods for identifying and protecting NASA assets from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, sabotage, or loss. You will manage and track special projects. You will serve as a NASA Special Agent.

Duties

Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Assist with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards, training, and methods for identifying and protecting NASA assets from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, sabotage, or loss. Assist as a NASA Glenn Research Center Special Security Officer and help manage the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. Safeguard information and material whether it is in the direct custody of the Agency or in the hands of other governments, private businesses, educational institutions, or other persons or organizations. Assist with assessing reliability, loyalty, suitability, and trustworthiness of those with access to sensitive/classified information, resources, and material which could adversely affect national security, the public welfare, or efficiency of NASA. Assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining procedural and technical methods to enhance physical protection. Assist with assessing the damage done to national security when information or material has been compromised or sabotaged. Foster relationships and support internal stakeholders at NASA Glenn Research Center. Assist with the management and tracking of all special projects within NASA Glenn Research Center Office of Protective Services. Assist with developing and providing security education to NASA Glenn Research employees through written and verbal briefings. Assist with developing security plans for NASA special events. Assist as a NASA Special Agent with protective details, investigations, emergency response, and event support. Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation.   • Position requires you to meet the criteria for use of a firearm in accordance with the Federal Arrest Authority and must meet the standard and training qualifications in strict compliance with 14 CFR, Chapter V, Part 1203b.103

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-11, you must have: a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level: Providing physical security to facilities, personnel, classified information, and/or other sensitive materials/resources; Participating in public safety operations for the protection of people, data, and property for local, state, tribal, territorial, and/or Federal organizations; Assisting internal and external stakeholders through written and oral communications. OR b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field OR c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field OR d) LL.M., if related OR e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Assisting in the design of physical security solutions to protect personnel, facilities, and equipment; Assisting with public safety and security operations to local, state, tribal, territorial, and/or Federal organizations; Providing guidance on the operations for Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities.
