The IT Specialist vacancy is in our headquarters office, located in Portland, Maine's largest city. Duties
If selected for this position you will serve as District Litigation Support (LS) Specialist in the Administrative Division, U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO), District of Maine, Department of Justice, located in Portland, Maine. You will perform litigation support tasks associated with day-to-day operation of the USAO LS systems. These duties include a variety of information technology support to meet USAO information needs utilizing network hardware and software capabilities, including specialty LS software. Typical duties include.
Install, configure, and maintain litigation support equipment; develop standards and procedures for applications; and coordinate efforts with other agencies involved in litigation team activities.
Coordinates litigation support services (including trial preparation and presentation) in
response to case and/or team needs.
Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Develop, test, and implement internet, intranet, and extranet LS activities, including technical management of websites.
Diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer reported incidents; install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain customer hardware and software; and provide for customer training including orientation for new users.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- You must submit a transcript or proof of degree/certificate.
Qualifications
To be eligible for a recent graduate appointment, ALL of the following requirements must be met:
Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first. Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)
You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
All recent graduates are required to sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement.
Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment.
Qualification requirements as outlined below:
GS-07: To be qualified applicants must meet ONE of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: experience that has equipped you with the competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Qualifying experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of duties: assisting in performing a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations and administration of IT systems; applying basic IT principles and practices to provide software/hardware maintenance support; providing user assistance on basic computer applications; and assisting with network monitoring and management.
OR
EDUCATION: One full year of graduate level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: Successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, and my education has equipped me with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
OR
COMBINATION: A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements.
Education
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
