About the Position: Serves as a Maintenance Worker and Facility Maintenance Inspector for the Project Lake Office/Area Office performing a variety of maintenance, operation and inspection duties.

Duties

Applies a variety of standardized methods, procedures and techniques to install, maintain and repair equipment such as, but not limited to, hydraulic gates and systems, gate hoists machinery, cranes, sump pumps, and water systems pumps. Inspects electrical items such as, but not limited to, circuit breakers and fuses for proper condition and size, replacing defective breakers; tightens connections in circuit breakers, distribution panels, light switches, outlets and light fixtures. Welds similar metal components together to fabricate or repair equipment; Uses gas welding, brazing or arc welding; repairs broken or cracked parts; positions and clamps components together before welding. Constructs, installs, repairs or modifies items and structures, such as, windows, doors, screens, roofs, siding and floors by removing damaged parts and replacing on toilets, gate houses, storage buildings and similar structures. Installs, repairs, replaces and maintains such things as pipe, tile, union joints, faucets and drains. Maintains project water supply and sewage facilities. Repairs or replaces pumps, valves, faucets, broken waterlines, hand pumps and hydrants; sets pressure gauges on water pumps and pressure tanks. Collects water samples for testing. Operate overhead shop cranes and various forklift trucks and mobile lifting equipment including man lifts. Operates dump truck equipped with a pintle hitch and pulling heavy equipment trailer (Combined weight over 26,000 pounds with trailer weight over 10,000 pounds). Collects humidity, temperature and wind velocity readings from weather instruments and makes gage readings pertaining to water storage.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays as mission dictates.
  • Pre-employment physical is required.
  • Obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license. A copy is required with your application.
  • Lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Wear the appropriate uniform for this position.
  • Position requires a pre-employment drug test and enrollment in the Army Civilian Drug Testing Program. You must complete and sign a DA Form 5019-R if selected for the position.

Operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, motorboats and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repairs, replacement or creation of projects. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, knew, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
