This National Guard position is for a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1719P01 and is part of the Oregon Air National Guard 142d Wing, National Guard.
Duties
As an INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST (TITLE 32), GS-0690-11, this position is located in the Medical Group at an Air National Guard Wing. The purpose of this position is to provide a professional Industrial Hygienist to plan, schedule, execute, manage, and administer the installation-wide Industrial Hygiene/Bioenvironmental Engineering Program (IH/BEE), which includes occupational health/industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and environmental monitoring to maintain and promote the health and well-being of military and technician personnel.

- This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration, not to exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

Areas of Consideration:
Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG.
Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG.
Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG.
Area 4 - Individuals in the active duty US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard.
Area 5 - US Citizens eligible to meet the military requirements for membership in the Oregon ANG.
GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Work includes advising on, administering, supervising, managing, or performing professional and scientific work in industrial hygiene, including the identification and evaluation of conditions affecting the health and efficiency of employees, or the citizens of the adjacent community, the formulation and recommendation of measures to eliminate or control occupational health hazards, and the promotion of occupational health programs for instructing and motivating managers and employees in the prevention as well as correction of potential health hazards.
Must have at least 1 year experience equivalent to GS-9. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Qualifying experience may have been obtained in field, laboratory, engineering, or other environment if the work provided a means of obtaining a professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely related sciences such as physics and engineering controls. Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas: the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative data, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the data acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendation of appropriate controls, including management, medical, engineering, education or training, and personal protective equipment.
Education
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
*A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science;
or
*A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene;
or
*Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).

All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.
