Duties
Research, compile, and tabulate wildlife inventory data.
Conduct field surveys on for federally listed and sensitive wildlife species.
Conduct site, habitat, and vegetation monitoring.
Conduct habitat and vegetation treatments as needed to meet management objectives.
Complete inventories for specific species in potential habitat areas, document locations using maps and GIS/GPS technology.
Process samples and enter data into databases.
Interpret aerial photos, land-sat imagery, and topographic maps to determine land use and vegetation distribution and to plot nest/herd breeding sites.
Higher grade positions my lead lower-level grades, plan projects related to wildlife habitat
Improvement, and create analytical reports on environmental impacts to wildlife and present results at scientific and technical forums

Qualifications
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified:
Obatain and maintain a valid Driver's License
Ability to drive a 4X4 vehicle or ATV

To qualify for the GS-07 Biological Science Technician (Wildlife): you must posses one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GS-6 level. Examples of specialized experience may include researching, compiling and tabulating a full range of wildlife inventory data. Leading or conducting field inventories of wildlife species to develop intensive scientific information. Collecting ecological site information for sensitive, threatened or endangered wildlife.

Successful completion of one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position;

A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.
