Duties
Serve as a Physician (Pediatrics) in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), responsible for direct patient care and education in the field of Pediatric and Newborn Medicine performing duties in the Pediatrics Clinic, Inpatient Ward, and Newborn Nursery.
Inpatient and outpatient coverage may vary based on patient demands and clinic needs
Evaluate and treat acute and chronically ill patients, arranging admissions and follow-up care post hospitalization as needed
Order laboratory tests and x-rays necessary to complete diagnosis, and correlate results obtained with the clinical findings.
Prescribe and administer treatment, diet, and other corrective action for ambulatory patients.
Provide inpatient care to include the evaluation and admission of patients from the emergency department, other clinics, and outside facilities to include direct admissions.
Provide oversight to medical students, interns, and residents and other health care providers as assigned on the inpatient ward and newborn nursery.
Serve as consultant to nurses on problems related to well childcare and preventive pediatrics.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Childcare Background Check (CNACI). This position has a specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
- This position requires a signed statement of understanding consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations, or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position requires an Immunization screening. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicant may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position requires applicant to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position requires applicant to fulfill credentialing requirements and required to obtain and maintain appropriate relevant clinical privileges.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Applicant will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position requires a pre-placement medical examination.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- This position will include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 10% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
- This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Basic Requirement for Physician (Pediatrics):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Pediatrics) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
