This position is with the Justice Management Division, Facilities and Administrative Services Staff (FASS), Justice Building Services Staff. The Justice Buildings Services is responsible for performing functions with respect to the operations, maintenance, repair, preservation, alteration, furnishing, equipment and custody of the Robert F. Kennedy, Main Justice Building (RFK).

The duties and responsibilities of a Utility Systems Repairer - Operator, WG-4742-11 generally include, but are not limited to the following: *Installs and repairs air condition systems to provide exact temperature levels in special conditions. *Identifies the cause of faulty air conditioning equipment and provides repairs, modifications, and relocates equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning units and systems. *Operates utility systems of extremely large capacity and flexibility. *Troubleshoots unusual malfunctions on advanced equipment and systems. *Serves as "operator in charge" of utility systems operations. *Maintains, operates, and repairs boilers or emergency electrical generators.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

  • You will lift objects weighing 20-50 pounds. Upon occasion, may have to lift objects in excess of 50 pounds.
  • You are exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, shock, broken bones, and burns. Protective clothing and devices must be worn to minimize the potential for accidents.
  • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling are required. Work may be performed in cramped or awkward positions.
  • Works indoors in areas that usually have adequate light, heat, and fresh air, as well as outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Utility Systems Repairer-Operator, (WG-4742-11), you must meet possess the required experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to. QUALIFICATIONS:Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator without more than normal supervision: Laying out assignments for others; Demonstrating how to set up and operate tools; and Performing Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) mechanical repair work. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
