Duties

Inspect vehicles transporting ammunition to ensure the vehicle is mechanically safe to transport ammunition and that the ammunition loaded on vehicle is compatible, properly loaded and secured, and appropriate placarding is in place. Use automated / manual inventory systems to maintain records. Periodically inspects ammunition magazines to ensure that ammunition is packaged, marked, and stored IAW applicable regulations Conducts visual type of inspections of ammunition ensuring packages and marks ammunition in accordance with regulations. Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift trucks in order to lift loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches. Ensure ammunition items are appropriately stored in correct areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • The incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
  • The incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment and random drug test.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver license.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain a hazmat/ammunition certification within one year of entering the position.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain an OSHA forklift license for operating a forklift with the capacity of 10,0000 pounds within 90 days of entering the position.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel (TDY) up to 10% of the time

Experience is defined as: 1) Independently conduct multiple types of visual inspections for ammunition storage facilities of unexpended/expended ammunition items; 2) Identify malfunctioning ammunition; 3) Issue/Turn-in ammunition by lot/serial numbers; and 4) Update records and report deficiencies. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Involves continuous physical activity such as standing, stooping, and bending. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 70 pounds, and occasionally may handle items weighing over 70 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed inside and outside. Wearing of protective clothing such as gloves and safety shoes is required, and wearing of other protective clothing may be required. Duties are performed in defined areas where use of matches, lighters, and smoking is prohibited due to close proximity of hazardous ammunition and explosives.
