The Environmental Management office of the Western New York Healthcare System (VAWNYHS) - Batavia is tasked with the coordination of all transportation, snow removal, maintenance of grounds, and housekeeping operations of a large facility. The incumbent serves as the primary technical expert and is responsible for the operations, repair and maintenance of all automobiles, trucks, busses and special purpose vehicles for the Batavia Medical Center.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: - Responsible for the utilization and maintenance of all automobiles, trucks, buses and special purpose vehicles and equipment owned by or leased to VAWNYHS (Batavia). - Keep continuously aware of VAWNYHS (Batavia) needs and weather conditions, making available and scheduling vehicles accordingly, and carries out directions, policies and procedures issued by the Engineering Manager. - Participates with his/her supervisor in the selection, promotion or reassignment of staff and recommends disciplinary actions and incentive awards, plans for improving work performances and training programs. - Organizes and directs staff in productive daily work schedules, and accomplishes work within established policies of EMS. - Responsible for ordering and stocking repair parts, supplies, materials, and equipment and participates in preliminary planning of budget for various control points. - Creates 1358's for all transportation costs. - Responsible for the maintenance of Medical Center and GSA rental vehicles. - Responsible for compiling all scheduled vehicles inspection providing upkeep and maintenance services and submitting monthly cost figures to invoice GSA lnteragency Motor Pool, Buffalo, N.Y. for all services and materials provided by VAWNYHS (Batavia). - Be familiar with spraying and application techniques as well as pesticide use and other controls used in a ground maintenance management. - Oversee contractors ensuring the safe usage of any materials being used. - Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all grounds and snow removal equipment, such as road sweeper, lawn sweeper, salt spreader, flail mower, Bobcats 553, 5528, and 873, power washer, and portable generators. - Responsible for administering road tests, grading applicants, maintaining records of authorized drivers and conducting a search of the driver's background through the National Driver Request Program. - Instructs subordinates in the safe and efficient operation of such complex equipment as pay loaders, snowplows, tractors with backhoe, front-end loader and gang-mowers. - Responsible for all work and documentation to insure the section under his/her direction is in compliance with all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to Joint Commission, GSA, OSHA and all life safety standards. - Creates and presents reports as required by the department and various regulatory agencies. - Provides technical expertise and consultative advice to the Assistant Director (Batavia site manager) and the Chief of EMS. - Comments and makes recommendations as needed to address issues with existing conditions, work assignments, costs, energy savings, and maintenance of items. - Assigns and dispatches vehicles on a daily basis for all patient, employees and staff trips using up to 25 different vehicles. - Investigates all accidents and makes out reports sending them to District Counsel. - Responsible of all repairs and maintenance of all equipment, tools and motorized equipment used by the transportation and EMS section. - Required to act in the capacity of a Service Manager in assessing mechanical failure on vehicles and equipment. - Maintains documentation and can account for all services and materials provided by VAWNYHS/Batavia which will be billed to GSA Motor Pool, Buffalo NY. - Assures that all vehicles and equipment are performing efficiently and that safety items such as tires, brakes, light, etc. are in proper working order. - Responsible for the upkeep of 48.8 acres of land which consists of 36 acres of lawns to be cut and trimmed, also includes the New York State Nursing Home. - Responsible for the removal of debris from all walks, stairs and stairwells, the removal of all trash and debris from VAWNYHS (Batavia) grounds. The removal of ice and snow in all parking lots, walks, and stairs during the winter months is managed by the incumbent. - Responsible for supervisory oversight which includes environmental sanitation, waste management, and basic pest functions. - Coordinates logistical support for interior design activities, and for setups and movement for furniture/furnishings. -Makes daily inspections of areas serviced by Aids to insure adequate coverage and proper work performance, observes quantity and quality of work performed by housekeeping staff and work leaders advising them of conditions that do not meet prescribed standards and regulatory requirements. -Responsible for the control, use and maintenance of numerous pieces of environmental sanitation equipment such as automatic floor scrubbers, vacuums, buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors. - Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Physical Requirements: Physical effort is needed at this level to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles. Ambulance or patient transport vehicle drivers may be required to assist patients into and out of the vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending. Working Conditions: Drivers operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
