This position is located with USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area (PWA), Soil & Water Conservation Research Unit (SWCRU) in Pendleton, OR and the incumbent will provide technical research support to the locations Research Scientists and their Research Projects.
This is a Term appointment with an initial length of 13 months. However, it may be extended up to a total of 10 years. Decision to extend will be determined by the Supervisor.
Duties
Actively participates in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of complex technical duties, in a laboratory environment.
Adapts, modifies or develops new techniques and/or procedures to satisfy the needs of the research project.
Uses a variety of specialized equipment to perform a full range of techniques.
Maintains, calibrates and modifies complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled and which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualification Requirement - GS-06
Experience:The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-06 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or its non-federal equivalent, collecting or preparing samples in a laboratory environment; recording and analyzing scientific data; and performing routine and recurring techniques using a variety of specialized equipment.
OR
Education: 1 year progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Biological Science, Agricultural science, Chemical science, or Chemistry.
OR
A combination of graduate-level education and specialized experience as described above.
Qualification Requirement - GS-07
Experience:The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-07 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level or its non-federal equivalent, participating in a research project; preparing and analyzing scientific data in a laboratory setting; and maintaining equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures in a research project.
OR
Education: 1 year progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Biological Science, Agricultural science, Chemical science, or Chemistry.
OR
A combination of graduate-level education and specialized experience as described above.
