The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation HCG at the Long Beach VA Hospital is seeking an orthopedic Physical therapy program coordinator for our outpatient clinics. The incumbent assigned to this position has supervisory, program coordinator, and treatment responsibilities in this specialty area.

VA Careers - Physical Therapy: https://youtube.com/embed/Gi2hoFqIoqY Duties: A few of the main scope of assigned duties include: (but not limited to) Serves as the subject matter expert for physical therapy evaluation and treatment of patients with several musculoskeletal and orthopedic issues. Coordinates the operations and facilitates the mentorship of other physical therapists within the clinical area. The PT ortho coordinator has a supervisory role within the specialty clinic as well as the physical therapy group. Evaluates physical therapy orthopedic program operations by analyzing data, monitoring performance, access to clinics, staff productivity, etc. and develops action plans to improve care delivery in the physical therapy group. Coordinates planned and unplanned leave with other members of the team, to provide adequate coverage and minimize disruption of patient care. Ensures accurate timekeeping of staff. Responsible for approval of time and attendance and collaborates with the administrative PM&R team for adequate management of clinical operations. Evaluates and completes performance appraisals of physical therapy staff, including the PT ortho clinic and collaborates with the other PT coordinators in the completion of this task. Provide administrative and management support for Physical Therapy Program and PM&R HCG. Able to cover other program coordinators' functions in case they are not available or absent. Minimal administrative time required: 50 percent TOD Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a degree program in Physical Therapy from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) with a Baccalaureate degree or higher in Physical Therapy Certificate in Physical Therapy with a Baccalaureate degree or higher in a related field Assignment: Employees at this level serve as LANA certified Lymphedema Physical Therapy Specialist in a specialty content area within a Complexity Level 1a facility. Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice Physical Therapy in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Spoken and written English language proficiency in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-13 Physical Therapist (Program Coordinator) Experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate all the following KSAs. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to apply advanced knowledge of contemporary physical therapy within specialty area to provide clinical guidance, training or education for internal and external stakeholders. Ability to serve as a consultant within the assigned program area for intra-agency and interagency planning and to provide service coordination to optimize program continuity, efficiency and effectiveness. Knowledge of and skill in management, administration and/or education 11 methodologies. This includes the ability to monitor and track data, utilize available resources effectively, evaluate program quality, and generate reports for local, and/or VISN and/or VACO leadership. Ability to develop and coordinate treatment and/or educational programs within a concentrated field or specialty area, such as, but not limited to, amputee, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, student clinical education/residency programming, polytrauma/traumatic brain injury. . Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships within department and with other departments or affiliated programs. The full performance level of this vacancy is 13. Physical Requirements: The United States Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook relates that the physical therapy occupation can be physically demanding because therapists may have to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and stand for long periods. In addition, physical therapists move equipment and lift patients or help them turn, stand, or walk with appropriate assistive devices.
