About the Position: Serve as a nursing primary technical expert and educational consultant for the Practical Nurse Course (PNC) 68C Program for the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, located in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
***This position is NOT entitled to Title 38 Premium Pay. This position is not in a clinical setting and not seeing patients. This position is classroom training for battlefield medicine.***
Duties
Assists the PNC Branch Director in development of the 52-week Practical Nurse Course Program of Instruction (POI) (curriculum).
Evaluates existing curriculum to ensure the most updated information is included.
Recommends approval of substitution of materials to improve content presentation.
Submits request for procurement of education supplies or equipment.
Reviews instructional materials (i.e., lesson plans, student handouts, practical exercises, power point presentations, etc.) of novice instructors assigned to the department.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires an active, current nursing license as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territory of the United States.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes developing revisioning, implementing, and evaluating Practical Nurse Course Program of Instruction (POI) curriculum in accordance with policies and guidelines. Experience with advanced education, extensive clinical knowledge and skills of education programs, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation. Researching principles and practices, to include formulating, collecting, organizing, adapting, recording and communicating data relevant to educational needs of Practical Nurse Course (PNC) students. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Teaching, Education Studies, and Instructional Design.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
