This position is located in the Facilities Management/Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the VA Black Hill Health Care System, Fort Meade, SD.
The Laundry Machine Operator Leader is responsible for leading and overseeing the duties of the laundry operations section in the performance of laundry related services in the medical center.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Incumbent is responsible to the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist for assuring that the work assignments of the other employees of the section are carried out.
Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. Assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
Monitors progress of work and makes day to day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Obtains assistance from the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist as needed.
Incumbent maintains records of work accomplishments and prepares production reports as required.
Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques.
Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices in conjunction with training program provided by the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist, with strong emphasis on safe work habits.
May operate all power equipment, washer/extractors, dryers, or any laundry related equipment in the absence of the regular machine operator to cover any vacant positions due to vacations, sick leave, etc.
Leads other employees in daily assignments and monitors the quality of work being performed.
Incumbent approves leave in the absence of the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist.
Informs employees of available services and employee activities.
Resolves informal concerns 'of employees and refers others to the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist. Reports to the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist on performance, progress, and training needs of employees and on disciplinary issues.
Makes suggestions to Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.

Incumbent assumes total responsibility in operation of laundry during absence of the Supervisor Laundry Operations Specialist due to vacation, sick leave, training and trips off station.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

Driver's License Requirement: Must possess a valid Driver's License to operate a motor vehicle. (Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package.) You will be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of your interview.
Physical Requirements: Standing and walking on concrete floors. Subject to continuous stretching, stooping, pulling, and heavy muscular effort in loading and unloading machines. You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work in a hot and humid atmosphere and in a production setting.
