The Primary Purpose of the Position is: To use multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents; and, to provide miscellaneous clerical support. The Organizational Location of this Position is: Deputy Associate Director Patient Care Services, Associate Director of Patient Care Services, VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS).

Duties

Duties Serves as clerical support for the Chief Nurse (CN) of Ambulatory Care Remote sites- Nursing Service. The primary function of the position requires the employee to perform all clerical duties required to support the CN. The incumbent coordinates prioritization of work with the CN to assure that work is completed in a timely manner. Performs typing and filing, prepares materials for publication such as pamphlets, certificates, forms, graphs, technical manuals or comparable items. Provides data entry for all programs and/or documents used or distributed by the CN, including but not limited to Vista and MS office Software. Prepares and distributes copies of documents and materials used by the CN including memorandums, reports of contact, cascade call list, procedure and protocol handouts utilizing MS office for windows. Answers telephone and personal inquiries made to the CN and provides required information and /or assistance or makes referral to the appropriate nursing staff members for assistance. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Work Schedule Statement: May be required to work other shifts, be on call, work weekends and/or holidays as patient care and needs of the service require. Should operational needs dictate, candidates must be willing to work within other units (including community based outpatient clinics, for example) to assist and support continuation of the provision of care/services. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/03/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows programs and must be able to utilize functions such as tables of contents, graphics, creation of glossaries, columns and tables, and chart creations. Skill in operation of PC to accurately and neatly present information in the proper format. Knowledgeable in spelling and grammar, medical terminology, CO formats and routing for proper signatures. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information in all matters. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education. Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant: 40 words per minute typing speed. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Computer Skills Communication Customer Service Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying and/or lifting light items such as papers and books. No special physical requirements to perform the work.
