This position serves as a journeyman High Voltage Electrician in the Electrical Maintenance Unit of the Engineering Service.The High Voltage Electrician is assigned to the Engineering Department of Western New York Healthcare System (WNYHS) Buffalo Medical facility in Buffalo, New York. This positions duty station may be Buffalo or Batavia but may be detailed to either site when necessary for temporary assignments as workload dictates.
Duties
Major Duties:
Maintains the operation and preventive maintenance of all electrical substations;
Inspects and performs preventive maintenance duties in the 23,000, 4160, 480/277, and 208/120 volt transformation and distribution stations on an on-going basis;
Installs, modifies, repairs and connects various equipment to electrical power services ranging in size from 110-volt-single phase to 480-volt three-phase, and repairing the 4160 volt starters on chillers;
Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment related to secondary power distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements, to distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits; industrial multiphase systems; thermocouple sensors; electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm system; emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems; high intensity lighting systems with associated controls; target mechanisms; AC and DC rectification systems; galvanic and impressed current cathodic projection systems which prevent corrosion on underground or submerged equipment and pipes; amplifier circuits; and related electrical equipment;
Installs and repairs various lighting systems and specialized power systems.
Installs telephone and computer lines, alarm systems, CCTV systems, intercom systems, wiring for patient monitoring systems, and door hold-open and security devices;
Repairs non-medical electrical equipment such as kitchen and laundry appliances, electric tools, fans, pumps, floor maintenance equipment, electrical warehouse trucks, and other similar equipment.
Repairs, modifies and adjusts motors and motor control circuits on a large variety of building service equipment located throughout the Medical Center;
Provides daily inspections of the condition and electrical loading of the switchgears and transformers located in the Medical Center sub-stations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent must be in good physical condition as his/her work involves climbing, work on ladders, and scaffolding, bending conduits which requires muscular effort and working in confined areas necessitating unusual working conditions. The electrician frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to twenty (20) pounds. Occasionally the electrician may lift and carry items that weigh over twenty (20) pounds.
The work is done inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. The electrician is sometimes required to perform work in laboratory and/or patient care areas where he/she may be exposed to contaminated equipment. He/she is occasionally exposed to electrical shock and burns. He/she is frequently exposed to cuts and bruises. Incumbent's duty station is Buffalo, but detailing to Batavia site may be necessary for temporary assignments as workload dictates.
