About the Position: Serves as the technical and administrative supervisor over a Welding and Fabrication multi-craft team.
Duties
Serves as a highly skilled journeyman welder using a variety of welding and burning processes including manual, automatic, electric ace/inert gas, gas torch to repair, modify or fabricate equipment in accordance with work orders.
Reads and interprets drawings, sketches, blueprints, and schematics.
Coordinates the work a multi-craft team of workers in duties associated with job order assignments (welders, riggers, crane operators, painters, carpenters, electricians, etc.).
Determines requirements for all equipment, work layouts, general arrangements of equipment, cleanliness, safety, and personnel work within the welding shop work areas.
Develops plans for alterations to welding/burning workstation locations and arrangements, including recommending to management new, state of the art machines to maximize the capability of the welding shop.
Performs a full range of supervisory duties (i.e. Developing performance standards, counseling, managing welding shop budget, recruitment, reviewing and developing job descriptions, etc.).
Instruct subordinates in new procedures and provide advice when problems arise.
Assures that team workers have all tools, guidance, materials, and personal protective equipment required to accomplish the assigned work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- A medical examination is required. If selected, satisfactory completion of a medical examination is required before assignment to the position.
- Subsequent physical examinations are required.
- Must possess and/or obtain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated and must maintain this license.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must have or obtain an American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Certification within 6 months placement into position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) WELDER SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience: The accomplishment of work assignments on a maritime vessel such as welding/burning related processes including manual, automatic, electric, arc/inert, gas shielded, gas torch or similar welding processes to repair, modify or fabricate equipment. I also have the ability to work with white iron casting and anti/abrasive epoxy. I am familiar with the Industry Standards of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) welding requirements. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: This position requires standing, stooping, bending, occasional lifting in excess of 50 pounds, stretching, working in cramped positions and spaces, handling or maneuvering bulky equipment, and general continuous moderate to demanding physical effort.
Working Conditions: Work crews are routinely assigned to remote locations not only within the duty location, but also other area projects. Employee is required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory. Incumbent will be exposed to all weather conditions.
