This Position is located in Blue Ridge Parkway, in the Maintenance and Engineering Division. This is a temporary promotion not to exceed 1 year but may be extended up to 5 years. This appointment could be made permanent without further competition.

Duties

Major Duties Statement: The position is a Maintenance Mechanic for the Blue Ridge Parkway. This position is a temporary promotion/detail opportunity not to exceed 1 year, with possible extension up to 5 years. The position may be made permanent without further competition. If made permanent, Permanent Change of Station (PCS) will be offered at that time. The position will serve the Bluffs Sub-District with the duty station located in Alleghany County, North Carolina. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent is engaged in performing a variety of complex repairs, maintenance, adjustments, modifications and preventive maintenance on facilities, equipment, and system. Obtaining and Maintaining a Class A CDL and North Carolina C-Well Water License within 12 months of your hire date will be required Conditions of Employment for this position. If you do not possess one or more of these requirements, if selected, the Park will provide training opportunities for you to obtain these licenses. Area/Duty Station Information: The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Alleghany County, North Carolina - Alleghany County, North Carolina - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Bluffs Maintenance Area, which is located near Laurel Springs, North Carolina. Laurel Springs is located approximately 10 miles from Sparta, North Carolina, 15 miles from West Jefferson, North Carolina, and 25 miles from Wilkesboro, NC. Larger cities such as Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Asheville, NC, are approximately 1 to 2 hours away with larger hospitals, airports, and more entertainment activities. Average winter temperatures range from 20-40 degrees with moderate snow and ice; average summer temperatures range from 60-80 degrees with high humidity.
