The Program Support Assistant position is in the Engineering Service of Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, IL. The primary purpose of this position is to administratively support the Engineering Service and coordinate the Transit Benefit/Parking Program for the Medical Center.
Duties
Major Duties:
Previous Administrative work experience is preferred (not required).
Coordinates and implements the National Transit Program.
Tracks the daily operations of the parking structure/garage for the Medical Center.
Signs up and withdraws employees for the parking garage program and submits paperwork to payroll to start or stop their deductions.
Conducts a parking garage audit once a month to ensure the parking garage is not over capacity.
Tracks vehicles and makes sure that employees are not misusing/abusing parking privileges that is intended for the patients or programs that would receive free parking.
Attends New Employee Orientation twice a month for the new employees that are hired to educate them on the Transit Benefit/Parking Program.
Prepares and distributes written information to inform employees of program options.
Develops methods to improve employment policies, processes, and practices, and recommends changes for the transit and parking program.
Performs timekeeping duties.
Performs various Engineering administrative tasks.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/05/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience tracking, coordinating, updating, editing, compiling and maintaining files and records; experience preforming clerical and administrative duties; skill in using computer applications for functions such as word processing, spread sheets and database management; and communication and interpersonal relation skills sufficient to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers both verbally and in writing.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small objects. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
