The San Diego VA Healthcare System's Health Administration service has three (3) vacancies for a Program Support Assistant (OA). The Program Support Assistant (OA) performs various administrative and clerical duties in support of Eligibility and Enrollment under the Health Administration Service
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Coordinates and provides administrative support;
Schedules and manages appointments;
Screens calls and visitors to the office, referring to other staff members as appropriate;
Composes and prepares correspondence, forms, letters, memos, and reports;
Schedules conferences, coordinates meetings and prepares meeting minutes;
Maintains office supplies and equipment;
Serves as the timekeeper for the service;
Receives and reviews all incoming correspondence; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, day shift

Qualifications

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation), GS-5 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: performing a full range of administrative support for an office; receiving visitors and phone calls; reviewing all incoming and outgoing correspondence; scheduling appointments and meetings; preparing a range of correspondence and reports; and utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). OR,
Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the person in this position may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
