About the Position: Works under the general supervision of the Chief, DNA Division, US Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory (USACIL) who provides administrative and policy direction regarding broadly defined missions or functions of USACIL executed Department of Defense (DoD) wide. Responsibilities are supplemented by discussion concerning broad development objectives, priorities, and significant problems involving processing assigned casework.

Duties

Serve as immediate supervisor performing a full range of supervisory functions. Provides technical oversight of forensic biologists. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjust priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work in accordance with USACIL strategic plans, missions, visions, and values. Monitors work and evaluates completed work. Develops employee performance standards and makes formal and informal appraisal of work, giving advice, counseling, coaching, and/or instructions to employees as required. Takes disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands. Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, provides or arranges for needed development or training in order to meet Division and USACIL requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 15% or more will be required for extended periods of time in response to crime scenes, courts and life­ cycle training worldwide.
  • Pre-appointment physical required.
  • Special requirements include wearing protective equipment (e.g., respirators, safety glasses, etc.)
  • Must participate in DNA profiling database within the USACIL.
  • Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing unless currently occupying a TDP within the Department of Defense
  • Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify as a Supervisory Biologist (Forensic Examiner), applicants must also meet the specialized experience requirement. Specialized experience is defined as at least one (1) year of experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service serving as technical expert in the area of forensic DNA analysis, providing technical support as necessary for the accomplishment of the laboratory mission by obtaining forensic information from evidence and material as necessary to provide DNA information used in court proceedings worldwide.
