About the Position: You will serve as supervisor of the maintenance staff. Exercise full supervisory responsibility for the control of work operations involving approximately 11 permanent and temporary employees.
Duties
The maintenance staff is responsible for the operation and maintenance of flood control and navigation dams.
Dam operation and maintenance duties include: computing and making flood releases; inspecting, repairing and maintaining the appurtenant structures and systems of the dam.
You will assist with annual dam inspections.
The maintenance staff is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of park facilities such as, public rest rooms, camp sites, picnic areas, park roads, etc.
Plan daily, weekly and monthly work schedules.
Establish shop deadlines and priorities.
Select workers and assigns tasks to be performed.
Explain work requirements, methods and procedures, instruct subordinates on new procedures and provide advice when problems arise
Establish performance standards and make formal and informal appraisals.
Assure all safety practices are observed in work operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Must obtain/maintain a forklift license.
- Must obtain/maintain a USACE motorboat operator license.
- Must obtain/maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
- Must wear a prescribed uniform.
- May be required to work weekend/night work schedule.
- May be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug testing.
- A one year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- THIS IS A MISSION ESSENTIAL POSITION. You will continue to perform essential functions during contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather situations or other emergency situations.
- A pre-employment physical examination is required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Supervise. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials up to 40 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms.
Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
