You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will lead crews in troubleshooting cable systems to locate shorts, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance or cable breaks.
You will lead a team as a High Voltage Electrician completing high voltage electrical inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
You will maintain proper work methods, explain steps and or processes to ensure the safety of crew members and safe operations of the equipment.

You will use tools and test equipment (climbing gear, belt and harness to operate, test and repair high voltage overhead/underground lines, cross arms, transformers, switches and surface/subsurface structures).
You will lead work in substations using tools and tests equipment to troubleshoot and maintain switchgear, circuit breakers, and control and protective devices.
Requirements
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE : 1) Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g.generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electricalproblems; 3) Using high voltage test tools (e.g. oscillators, primary and secondary injection tester, Power Factor and Relay calibration equipment, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment); 4) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V; 5) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems.
