The primary purpose of this position is to inspect, evaluate, correct defects, and apply a spectrum of various special coatings including low infrared reflective base coatings, high gloss finishes and corrosive inhibitors to aircraft. Perform state of the art preparation/application on various composites/metal substrates of assigned aircrafts, assemblies, and systems.
Duties
Accurately performs inspections, evaluate, and assess status of various composites, metal substrates, low infrared reflective applications and other special coatings.
Identifies, and mixes various array of special coating materials ranging from low infrared reflective needs primer, elastomeric corrosion inhibitor, epoxy, fluid resistant fuel cell primer, and other polyurethane paints ranging from flat to high gloss, enamels, lacquers, elastomers, varnishes, shellacs, soil barrier compound, anti-corrosive inhibitors, other bituminous coatings as polyurethane/polyamides.
Applies coating methods and techniques to ensure a high-quality decorative appearance, maintain a
protective barrier for structural substrates, meets specific thicknesses for various applied compounds.
Determines areas of the aircraft to be repaired and other discrepancies as to protect the integrity of
aircraft(s) surfaces, assemblies, and their components.
Performs seam sealing operations in interior of aircraft wheel wells including exterior surfaces, chemical stripping assemblies/parts, propeller tips on engines, and applying pre-coating agents or conversion coating, prep, sand, buff and/or repair honeycomb panels.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4100 Painting And Paperhanging Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work may be performed in an outside or inside setting. May sometimes be required to perform work in all types of weather and environment while complying with environmental laws and safety regulations. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, sanding dust, toxic vapors, gas, other fumes, chemicals and various hazardous materials. Works in confined spaces which requires recurring training on gas monitoring devices and portable breathing apparatus which may become uncomfortable, but use is mandatory. Exposure to the possibility of injury is always a possibility.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
