This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Provide housing search, case management, and services for a caseload of Veterans in the Housing and Urban Development - Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program.
Responsible for reviewing agreements between Veteran participants and landlords, Public Housing Authorities and the VA in establishing appropriate referral sites for HUD-VASH placements.
Perform site visits to rental properties, apartments, and houses to ensure they are safe environments and in compliance with local housing codes and housing quality standards (HQS).
Assist the HUD-VASH team by verifying the Veteran's status, eligibility for VA medical care, and eligibility for program participation.
Ensuring homeless Veterans who meet criteria for chronic homelessness are considered as primary participants for program acceptance.
Collect and submit HUD-VASH Program participant data.
Provide HUD-VASH clinical services.
Coordinate care including serving as an advocate on behalf of the Veterans to ensure comprehensive service delivery, and linking and referring Veterans to the VA Medical Center, VA Regional Offices, and community agencies.
Participate in HUD-VASH conference calls and attends training offered by the HUD-VASH Program.
Participate in program planning and development, advising the HUD-VASH Supervisor of shifting trends with housing stock, housing agencies, caseloads, and identifying the need for and making recommendations on program procedure or policy changes based upon work experiences.
Document all contacts with patients/families in the electronic medical record.
Collaborate with VA Medical Center multi-disciplinary teams and community agencies to strive for developing more effective and efficient ways of delivering housing services and resources to HUD-VASH Program Veterans.
Participate in HUD-VASH discharge planning with other disciplines; responsible for ensuring that discharge plans are executed in a manner that is timely and appropriate.
Provide individual, family, and group counseling.
Provide consultation/education to Veterans and families on community housing resources, advance directives, and VA benefits.
Act as a consultant to other team/staff members and community providers on issues related to local housing resources.
Act as liaison between VA and landlords, property managers, Housing Authorities, and community housing resources, to include furniture banks, thrift shops, and other relevant resources.
Social Work Service covers in-patient hospital weekend and holiday shifts. All Social Workers are assigned a 5-hour weekend or holiday shift twice a year.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 08:00am - 04:30pm

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates.
GS-11 Social Workercandidates must have the following:
Experience and Licensure: Appointment to the GS-11 grade level requires completion of a minimum of one (1) year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level.
OR
Education: In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one (1) year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.

These are the KSA's for this subject position:
Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.
Skill in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds.
Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e. acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan.
Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work requires use of fingers; moderate walking and standing; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in on eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing aid permitted; clear speech; emotional stability; moderate duty. Ability to drive/operate government vehicle.
