Duties
Participates in cultural resource inventories to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources.
Records information on archaeological site survey forms and prepares simple reports.
Cleans and catalogs artifacts recovered.
Assisting professional archaeologist in performing actual field studies; and carrying out field studies to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources for planning systems regarding cultural resources.
Planning and carrying out field studies to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources and writing reports based on findings; and applying and adapting a wide range of established data analysis methods.
Researching reference materials within an area slated for development; and preparing or assisting with preparation of forms for determination of eligibility and/or nomination of sites to the National Register of Historic Places.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.

FOR GS-05: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:
Assisting professional archeologist in performing actual field studies;
And carrying out field studies to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources for planning systems regarding cultural resources.

Education: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required- OR-Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
FOR GS-06: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:
Working with a professional archeologist,
Planning and carrying out field studies to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources and writing reports based on findings;
And applying and adapting a wide range of established data analysis methods to fit a variety of circumstances.

Education: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
FOR GS-07: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:
Researching reference materials such as site maps, existing archeological inventory information, books and other written data for possible cultural sites within an area slated for development;
And preparing or assisting with preparation of forms for determination of eligibility and/or nomination of sites to the National Register of Historic Places.

Education: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
