About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS), Training Division. Fort Sill, OK.

Duties

Review, approve, modify, or reject all requests for aerial, field artillery, mortar, lasers, and all other weapon systems live fire. Serves as a Range Scheduler to assist the Supervisory Range Operations Officer as the coordinator and reviewer of plans and schedules. Monitor the installation’s data in the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) program to ensure all facility, ammunition, safety-related and scheduling data is current. Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on training and range safety for the Operations Officer and Range Operations Branch. Coordinate with Mobilization Branch to verify Ranges, Training Areas, and airspace of non-tenant units is correctly scheduled and coordinated. Advise on site selection for construction of new training facilities and ranges or modification of existing training facilities and ranges to minimize conflicts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • The position requires the selectee to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.
  • Must be able to pass successfully a Range Safety Certification Examination.
  • Must complete of the Inter-Service Range Safety Course (Intermediate) and the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) course within one year.
  • May occasionally be required to work odd hours, including nights and weekends. Employee may be called back to work to support mobilization requirements.
  • The incumbent is required to successfully complete a physical examination
  • Employee is may be called back to work in emergency situations to include accident and firing incidents; as staff back-up for personnel shortage.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: safety management, program administration, facility management, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Specialized Experience for the GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with range and training facilities usage, to include: weapon and ammunition characteristics; range safety and risk management; scheduling use of firing range, to include reviewing requests for completeness; as well as accounting for ammunition expended to meet reporting requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice or Range Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
