The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (PACS) position is assigned to the Diagnostic & Therapeutic Care Line (DTCL) MEDVAMC, Radiology Service. The Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) Technologist provides support and troubleshoots system application issues and instructs users in the proper operation of digital image processing, storage, and display systems.

Duties

Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Brochure.pdf Duties of Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (PACS) - include, but are not limited to: Monitors Computerized (CR) /Digital Imaging and PACS. Monitors voice dictation systems for change and reports problems/malfunctions; Responsible for the development, implementation and enhancement of Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) and VistA/RAD Imaging Program for Radiology; Performs routine diagnostic x-ray procedures when required. Operates the digital fluoroscopy unit in the surgical suite when assigned by supervisor; Schedules patients for exams at the VAMC to provide uninterrupted medical care; Coordinator for Automated Data Processing Applications Coordinator (ADPAC) and Local Area Network (LAN), requests new employee access to Decentralized Hospital Computer Programs (DHCP) and LAN accounts and trains new employees and provides refresher training for current employee in the use of hospital software; Responsible for assisting sectional supervisors in periodic/yearly updates of the MSDS for MRI, X-ray, CT, and US; Trains students, staff, technologists and professional staff, as well as visiting staff from other medical centers and facilities on CR/Digital Imaging, and PACs. Trains professional staff in VistaRad Radiology software and voice dictation systems; Reviews image input for acceptability for interpretation by radiologists prior to routing to work/display stations. Images input from direct capture workstations are reviewed to assure complete data is transmitted. Ensures images are transmitted according to established quality management guidelines; Assists with PACS imaging, BioMedical Engineers, and Information Management Service in modality issues; Prepares formal reports as directed to ascertain the effectiveness, utilization and efficiency of systems operation, including, status reports and quality assurance reports; Prints copies of images for physicians, patients, and legal cases either on paper, compact discs, film or DVD; Acts as focal point for all issues regarding use of Computed Radiography (CR)/Digital imaging and PACS/Information Technology; Corresponds with vendors on implementation and upgrades of existing and new PACS/Radiology Section equipment; Troubleshoots problems with the system and provides additional and/or remedial training as needed; Maintains quality records of personal protective devices used by staff in Radiology (for example; lead aprons, etc.); Driving is required to address ADPAC system issues, staff will be required to visit the specific outpatient clinics or Tele-radiology home locations, to troubleshoot and address issues. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the 2 equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] Licensure/Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: DRT (PACS) GS- 10: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSA's. Ability to provide support and troubleshoot system application and hardware issues and instruct users in the proper operation of digital image processing, storage and display systems. Ability to perform VistA radiology, VistA imaging, and PACS support activities and general ADPAC duties including user access control. Ability to initiate repair requests with appropriate services or vendors. iv. Knowledge of PACS system infrastructure and functionality. Knowledge of PACS System infrastructure and functionality. Ability to provide training to all user levels in the efficient use of imaging hardware and software of the integrated PACS system. Knowledge of specific positioning, technique, and imaging procedures so he/she will be able to perform and reconcile image information correctly and efficiently during technical post processing and evaluation. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary but also demands standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, twisting, and carrying light items. Use of GOV is required.
