About the Position: This position is located at the U.S. Army National Guard Readiness Center, OTSG Preventative Medicine Branch, in Arlington, Virginia. About the Surrounding Area: Situated in Northern Virginia on the south bank of the Potomac River directly across from Washington D.C. Arlington is headquarters to many departments and agencies of the federal government, including the Department of Defense and is the location of many national memorials and museums.

Duties

Provide vision, guidance, oversight and planning assistance to occupational health programmatic and doctrine, oversight and assistance, surveillance, and studies to guide military occupational health guidance. Provide program direction, expert advice and consultative assistance to subordinates, installations, and directorates in states concerning health conservation requirements, Occupational Health services and related matters.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Consultant): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note: you must attach a copy of your license.) Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must have a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Specialized Experience: One year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing interpretation of occupational health regulated guidelines; participating in formal briefings and presentations to local leadership and at the national level; developing methods to improve the effectiveness of the Occupational Health program; conducting background investigations and documenting the findings to prepare reports outlying suggested solutions; providing advice on public health nursing as it relates to preventative medicine and occupational health programs. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: External AwarenessKnowledge Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
