This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Read structural blueprints to perform repairs.
Read blueprints to perform new structure construction.
Use tools used in repairing dry wall.
Use tools used in plumbing repairs.
Construct wood structures such as floors and walls.
Install basic electrical components such as outlet boxes.
Use basic plumbing components.
Cut accurate straight, angled, and curved cuts on wood products.
Determine the layout of work sequences.
Use T-Squares.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Possess and maintain a valid State Driver's license.
- Pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter.
- Work rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background check.
- May be required to perform Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 5% of the time.
- May be required to work unscheduled overtime.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position will require the incumbent to enroll in the Army Respiratory Program and Lead Abatement Program which will require annual medical screening.
- The incumbent will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as eye/face protection (chemical safety goggles), skin protection (wear chemical protective clothing), and Respiratory Protection (wear of Respirators).
- When wearing tight-fitting respirators, facial hair must be removed in order to facilitate a proper seal.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. Possess the ability to perform common structural repairs such basic drywall repair, applying paint to various structures that are indoors and outdoors, and plan work sequences for repair and fabrication of structures. Perform basic electrical installation and maintenance, and basic plumbing. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires considerable standing, walking, stooping, climbing, reaching, and bending. The employee will frequently be required to lift materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. The employee will operate a farm tractor with attachments over rough terrain which results in the employee being jolted.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed outdoors which exposes the employee to all types of weather. The maintenance mechanic will be subject to loud noises made by the numerous military weapons systems and vehicle movements. The range environment will subject the employee to dust, mud, extreme heat and humidity, cold or wind depending on the type of weather. During the performance of duties, the employee will be subjected to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, and falls.
