Duties
Serves as work leader of multiple employees in accomplishing trades and Labor work in in support
of the Facilities Management Division
Passes on instructions from the supervisor, getting work started through the assignment of work to individual group members and providing information on the proper way to perform a task
Ensures that plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from
supply locations
Works alongside others, setting the pace. Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, and tests new and existing refrigeration units such as cold storage plants, walk-in and reach-in refrigerators, domestic refrigerators, x-ray developing machines, MRI Chillers, deep freezers, ultra-low freezers, ice cream boxes, water coolers, and plant and station air conditioning equipment
Maintains current knowledge sufficient to answer questions from workers on policy and procedure, written instructions and
directive, technical orders -obtaining information/assistance from supervisor on problems that arise during performance of work
Ensures that safety and housekeeping procedures are being followed, and tools are being used properly - providing additional instruction as necessary to meet safety requirements
Performs diagnosis and testing, major repair, and overhaul of equipment in the shop
Work Schedule: M-F 7:30AM - 4:30PM

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work involves frequent standing, stooping, climbing, bending, and kneeling, and occasionally working in cramped awkward positions. Required to lift and handle objects weighting 50 pounds; often lifts and moves heavier objects with the assistance of other workers, lifting devices and aids such as movable tables or jacks. Work involves making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and other hard to reach places. Work is done inside and outside in dirty, dirty, dusty, and greasy conditions. May be required to make repairs and installations outside in adverse weather conditions. Occasionally makes repairs in areas where unpleasant odors are present. Subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, sprains, and strains from handling tools and installing equipment. Required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate to the tasks being performed. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises, toxic fumes, gases, and acids. Subject to burns from steam lines, gas-burning equipment, welding torches, and molten solder.
