The Fitness Assistant will assist with all aspects of the fitness program. They are able to do basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques, supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain facility and equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed. The position requires in-house training in basic fitness principles. The Fitness Assistant reports to the Fitness Coordinator or Sports Coordinator in most cases.
Duties
Performs and or assists in the operation of the recreation activity.
The employee performs basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques, supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain facility and equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed.
The employee must have the ability to understand basic fitness principles, learned through in-house training.
The Fitness Assistant reports to the Fitness Coordinator or Sports Coordinator in most cases.
Typical assignments may include establishing schedules of events; applying rules and regulations in supervising assigned youth participants in indoor and outdoor activities; setting up gymnasiums and playing fields for sports events; scheduling and conducting tours.
Demonstrates procedures common to the activities and instructs the use of related equipment.
Helps to plan and coordinates details of recreational activities and maintains related supplies.
Assists in planning, scheduling and publicizing various activities to attract and motivate participants.
May oversee sale of retail items associated with activities.
Ensures adherence to safety rules and regulations.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
Qualifications

Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Must have knowledge gained through relevant work experience which enables the incumbent to competently and independently carry out day to day operations as described above.
Must have six months to one year of work experience in a related recreational activity.
Must be a mature individual with an adequate level of physical fitness, sound leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must have work experience in customer service.
Within Basic Fitness Certification 90 days of appointment, must possess and maintain a current CPR and AED
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
