You will serve as a PARALEGAL SPECIALIST in the EASTERN AREA COUNSEL OFFICE of MARINE CORPS BASE.
Duties
You will summarize facts, legal issues and relevant case law; ensure proper processing of completed actions and case files and make recommendations to attorneys based on factual and legal research of individual cases.
You will be responsible for coordinating and preparing documentation necessary for personnel actions for both attorneys and non-attorneys.
You will be a coordinator/planner of the Legal Community of Interest (COI) program for all U.S. Marine Corps Legal Support Staff Personnel.
You will review published directives, messages, instructions, regulations, executive orders, statutory provisions, and appellate decisions.
You will be responsible for the establishment, review, revision, and maintenance of the freedom of information act administrative system.
You will train new administrative staff members in the use of office systems and processes and ensure compliance and adherence.
You will operate as the office law librarian to include conducting research and ordering, cataloging, and maintaining federal and applicable state library materials.
You will research statutory, regulatory, court and/or administrative precedents and other legal opinions or documentary material.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Overtime may be required infrequently to deal with and meet timelines.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Utilizing investigative tools/techniques to develop findings of fact to formulate opinions and recommendations; analyzing, interpreting and applying legal guidelines; and preparing litigation documents, memoranda and reports for high level officials, federal agencies, and/or clients.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
- I have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
- I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR
- I have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled OR
- I have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
