This position is located on a Forest Service Research Unit. The incumbent performs a variety of recurring technical duties in support of research projects.
Duties
Participates in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties, in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment.
Performs recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment. Maintains, calibrates and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records; maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources.
As directed, searches for literature pertinent to the area of research for new procedures or techniques to use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
Keeps detailed records of experimental data. Tabulates, statistically analyzes and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
Maintains inventory of chemicals, prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse, and safely disposes of waste material (both chemical and biological).
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5).

Examples of specialized experience include: Performing a variety of routine technical duties in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment; assisting in the collection and analysis of scientific/technical data; operating, repairing, and maintaining tools and equipment; and using automated systems to input data.
