National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world.

The incumbent provides a variety of informative, technical, administrative, and clerical services in support of various library functions. These duties include:
Cataloging
Circulation
Interlibrary Loan
Shelf Maintenance
Reference
Customer Service
Data Entry
Requirements

- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Background and Security Investigation: Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-04 for GS-05, GS-05 for GS-06 and GS-06 for GS-07 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience is defined as:
For the GS-05: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS).
For the GS-06: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) and experience cataloging library materials.
For the GS-07: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS), experience with library circulation procedures and assisting customers.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience is generally not applicable above GS-05, but may be considered if it is
directly related to the position being filled.
Substitution of Education for Specialize Experience:
- For the GS-05: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required.
- For the GS-06: A half year (6 months) of successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to the position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.
- For the GS-07: A full year (12 months) of successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to the position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.
If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.

- FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying or prior to appointment as outlined above.
- Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation upon request. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
