About the Position: This position is located at Robins Air Force Base in Houston County, Georgia. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. This is a DOD Demonstration Project position.

Duties

Control occupational health hazards associated with workplace and environmental factors associated with work operations. Develop sampling strategies to quantify hazards and assess degree of hazard and adequacy of controls. Recognize occupational health, safety, environmental hazards and practices and make or recommend corrective action. Advise management on Industrial Hygiene and related safety and environmental compliance issues. Provide consultation and advice to other organizations regarding occupational health concerns. Conduct training to ensure adherence to industrial hygiene practices and principles. Train personnel on the proper use of personal protective equipment and health hazard control measures within the work area. Evaluate plans for new constructions, alteration of facilities and new processes which may introduce hazardous conditions to workplace personnel.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position requires Tuberculosis Testing and/or record of Tuberculosis Testing.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for a Industrial Hygienist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. NOTE: All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting inspections, surveys, evaluations, or audits to correct or eliminate occupational health hazards that cause sickness, impaired health or illness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-II). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
