This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service located at the VA Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington and its supported catchment area.

Duties

This position serves as the Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Medical Center in Vancouver Washington and its catchment areas. As a Lead Supply Technician, you will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Major duties and responsibilities include: Distributing and balancing workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload; Monitoring status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities; Maintaining current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems; Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services, including pulling stock inventory and material from inventory for delivery, replenishing stock inventory, interacting with customers to resolve issues, maintaining records on stock levels, etc.; Performing inventory using barcode equipment and resolving differences between records and physical count of stock; Ensuring areas are cleaned in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled; Receiving supplies and materials into the catchment area including unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; storing supplies and materials; and ensuring sterility and integrity of the supplies and material as well as the data integrity of the inventory management system; and Working with clinical and administrative customers as well as outside vendors with tact and diplomacy to coordinate work activities and resolve operating issues pertaining to supply management requirements. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet time-in-grade and specialized requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 12/02/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your specialized experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Distributing supplies and materials including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment to all areas of the facility Scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing supplies and materials; Assisting in training new employees; Maintaining current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; Maintaining stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; Monitoring expiration dates and rotates stock; Cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and Receiving supplies and material into the facility NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month & year starting and ending dates AND hours worked per week. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, frequent bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Regularly pushes loaded cars of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With the assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment, will move heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. A portion of time is also spent operating ADP Equipment such as bar code scanners, computers and printers. Works throughout the medical center which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. Duties will subject the incumbent to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury. Will stock supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouse, and nursing areas. Will be expected to maintain a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infections pollutants while transitioning between environments.
