The Human Landing System (HLS) Program manages commercial development of human lander systems that will carry the first woman and the next man to the moon. The HLS Chief Engineer executes engineering technical authority advising the HLS Manager on critical decisions, risk assessments and posture, and technical focus areas; coordinates technical issue resolution; and engages with HLS engineering support, including working with the Systems Engineering & Integration Manager across all HLS elements.
Duties
The Chief Engineer Human Landing System Program Office:
Executes Engineering Technical Authority, ensuring appropriate technical rigor. Establishes and assumes responsibility for the engineering design processes, specifications, rules, and best practices necessary to fulfill programmatic requirements.
Interfaces with the Program Manager, other chief engineers, vehicle-level discipline lead engineers, partner managers, and the HLS Program Chief Safety Officer.
Continually engages and provides leadership to the engineering workforce at all NASA Centers working on HLS matters of engineering and program success.
Interfaces directly with program management to accomplish program objectives, support the design and development activity, and assure safety and operational objectives are achieved.
Establishes requirements, evaluates maturity of design solutions, establishes certification of flight hardware, assesses systems for safety of flight, and certifies flight readiness.
Plans, directs, and coordinates engineering and integration activities in support of the Engineering Directorate's technical activities and represents the Engineering Directorate at critical milestone reviews, boards, and panels.
Represents the Center to the cognizant offices of NASA Headquarters and the scientific and industrial communities within the U.S., and participates in national and international symposia and seminars related to space system development and operations.

Requirements
- The individual selected will be required to file an 'Executive Branch Personnel Financial Disclosure Report' (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.
- Successful completion of a background investigation commensurate with the risk and sensitivity level of the position.
- Successful completion of random drug screening may be required.
- Must meet qualifications requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
Candidates must be a recognized subject matter expert with at least 1 year of directly related experience equivalent to the GS-15 level with expertise in broad engineering.
Candidate must possess a detailed technical understanding of the design, development, certification, and operation of space flight vehicles and systems.
Candidates must have significant experience in technical management, design, and development of flight systems, program and project management activities for complex systems, and operation of intricate flight systems.

Education
