The primary purpose of this position FAMILY SUPPORT COORDINATOR (EFMP) NH-0101-02 is to plan, update, implement, and administer the installation family support portion of the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) in coordination with the installation EFMP assignments and medical functions to include identifying and enrolling special needs family members.
Duties
Manage the installation EFMP Family Support component of the DAF Exceptional Family Member Program.
Provide non-medical case management.
Develop, update, and maintain installation EFMP education, outreach, educational activities, workshops, and public affairs programs, to include awareness briefings for command, unit, community organizations, individuals, families, and distinguished visitors.
Provide a basic level of support to other Military and Family Readiness Center (M&FRC) programs to support a higher level of service to EFMP families.
Support military personnel (and civilians with a DoD Identification Card) and their families with special needs in managing the competing demands of the military mission and family.

- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items such as paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work
- WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated
- Personal data to which the incumbent has access are controlled by the Privacy Act of 1974 and must be safeguarded appropriately
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions Professional and Scientific Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the 0101 Social Science Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
EDUCATION: Applicant must have successfully completed a four year degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

EXPERIENCE:
Applicant must have, or within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement will have, at least 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-04), level, pay band (NH-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). General experience is described as: 1) Providing knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral sciences in relation to work in a family support capacity with special needs families. 2) Applying knowledge of the practical aspects of social services delivery systems, including those administered by federal agencies and non-standardized community and state service providers in the local area, as well as the variety of practices, procedures, and methods utilized for accessing them. 3) Conducting interviews with and counseling families and individuals with a wide variety of special needs, some of whom have multiple needs, to establish the nature and extent of concerns and issues, receive and assimilate information, encourage enrollment, aid in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services and/or options. 4) Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with leadership, on-and off base service agencies, state and local governments, and civic leaders to identify available services and gaps in services for families with special needs in a military environment, advocate for the families, and partner to achieve objectives. 5) Assessing and measuring organizational trends, concerns, and needs; identifying gaps in available services; reporting on; and providing recommendations for the development and implementation of effective plans and tools to address issues. 6) Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Applicant must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral sciences in relation to work in a family support capacity with special needs families.
Knowledge of the practical aspects of social services delivery systems, including those administered by federal agencies and non-standardized community and state service providers in the local area, as well as the variety of practices, procedures, and methods utilized for accessing them.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
