This position is located within the Environmental Management Service at the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System. This position is directly responsible for the supervision of Environmental Service Technicians and carrying out duties involving custodial, janitorial, housekeeping and sanitation activities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the treatment and care of our Veterans.
Duties
The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor/Environmental Services Technician Supervisor supervises, plans, directs and coordinates custodial, janitorial, housekeeping and sanitation activities as well as provides housekeeping coverage for one or more areas necessary to successfully complete the assignment. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis.
Coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities.
Cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout the Medical Center, Operating Rooms and all other areas as assigned.
Assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established polices and schedules.
Planning daily and weekly assignments and scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility.
Providing on-the-job training for subordinates as needed.
Scheduling regular meetings with staff to make sure staff are aware of new procedures or directives.
Keeping subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies.
Ensuring all safety regulations and procedures are observed.
Approving leave requests for subordinates, counseling employees and recommending disciplinary actions.
Routinely inspecting assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner.
Performing all other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 03:00PM to 11:30PM but tours may vary depending on the needs of the Service to include rotating days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work performed requires some light to heavy work such as cleaning halls, patient areas, corridors, etc. using hand and/or power driven tools. Subject to continuous sitting, standing, walking and frequent stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g. wall washers, industrial type buffers, etc.) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light and ventilation and may be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and skin irritants from strong cleaning solutions. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposure to varying degrees of heat and cold, as well as inclement weather. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required in some circumstances as exposure to possible contagious diseases or blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position.
