You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC LEADER in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will instruct other Marine Machinery Mechanics on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools and safety pertaining to shop trade skills.
You will recommend assignments of personnel to ensure skills training is optimized using current ships availability and schedule.
You will review job orders, Nuclear Power Engineering Authorizations, Technical Manual Attachments, Refueling Instructions, and Refueling Operations received from the supervisor and sort them into logical work sequences.
You will troubleshoot problems system interface checks using highly complex Reactor Plant mechanical measuring equipment, such as surface finish gages, modified instruments, modified dial verniers, special reactor plant tooling kits, etc.
Requirements

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Must be capable of attending and satisfactorily completing training courses on equipment or systems as required (ex. Refueling house training, Machine operator cutting and dressing, DRDM assy/disassy, etc.)
- This is a bargaining unit position.

Ability to determine the proper sequence of operation and start point in sequential operations to pinpoint areas of malfunction.
Ability to determine repair, overhaul, rip-out, align, troubleshoot, and test assigned complex, mechanical and indication systems.
Ability to isolate interface problems of interrelated systems and resolve encountered problems.
Ability to use a variety of mechanical measure instruments involving micrometers, Vernier's, dial indicators, intra-mikes, modified/special use micrometers, surface finish gages, and special Reactor Plant tooling kits.
Ability to test, analyze, repair, adjust calibrate and align components/systems.
Ability to provide technical assistance to lower grade employees, coordinate work, and assure proper work and safety methods are used.
