About the Position: This position fabricates, assembles, and installs a variety of articles of sheet metal using a wide variety of tools and equipment.

Duties

Lay out and cut material for wide variety of shapes such as square, rectangular, circular, conical, cylindrical, oval, irregular etc. Interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders. Assemble and fasten fabricated parts by installing bolts, rivets, screws and/or seaming, soldering, and spot welding. Determine dimensions by application of basic shop mathematics and use of scribing tools, dividers, rules, and other measuring devices. Bend and form metal parts into desired shapes with hand and power tools and various equipment. Form single and double hem edges and seams, dovetail and lock seams, set-in and burred bottom seams, and wired or rolled edges and flanges. Instruct and assist lower grade workers on sheet metal working techniques.

Is subject to a moderate amount of noise and vibration from shop machines, poor illumination and ventilation and unpleasant odors. Is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, and burns while working with tools; subjected to hazards of working around moving machinery; and to explosive hazards while working on production equipment while explosive operations are in progress. Workers may be required to wear appropriate safety gear such as protective eyewear.
