Duties
As an Information Technology Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Develops and implements technology solutions for the region with responsibility for reviewing and approving new information technology (IT) alternatives to increase operability. Evaluates organizational data needs and participates in security strategies.
a. Provides detailed reports about system requirements, suggest possible changes, participates in end user training sessions, and directs and creates opportunities for growth for subordinate IT staff.
b. Prepares documentation for future reference among the IT team.
2. Develops plans for IT projects and programs, determining factors such as project scope, specifications, costs, work plans, and materials and implements programs to ensure systems operability and security; manages the implementation of projects relating to the Region's software, hardware, networks, or other IT systems; advises Meteorologist in Charge (MIC) on IT use and considerations affecting budget and resources.
3. Provides applications and program support to users by performing installation, configuration and software maintenance of existing applications programs and develops programs and scripts as needed in both UNIX/LINUX and Windows environments.
4. Provides quality assessment and assurance for operation of Information Technology services and programs and identifies best practices and service improvement initiatives in support of systems; analyzes user and system requirements; determines input/output media and formats; evaluates software and hardware solutions; writes and modifies code/programs/scripts and performs testing and debugging to ensure software meets intended requirements and security.
5. Supports the monitoring and the security of IT systems and keeps security programs up to date.
6. Oversees technical staff working on projects, assigning tasks and ensuring work is on schedule and within budget. Maintains knowledge of and implements Government IT Solutions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

IT COMPETENCIES: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Coordinating application and program support for software installations and configurations; and
Performing software maintenance in LINUX or Windows environments.
To qualify at the GS-13 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Providing application and program support for software installations and configurations;
Installing and maintaining software in LINUX and Windows environments; and
Assisting with the development of plans for IT systems and programs.
