Employees in this Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition) assignment at Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC) oversee the Clinical Nutrition Section providing administrative and technical supervision over staff at the GS-11 level and below and may supervise advanced practice and/or program coordinator dietitian(s) at the GS-12 level. Incumbent reports directly to the FxHCC Director of Clinical Services.
Duties
Major duties include, but not limited to:
Serves as a professional and technical advisor to staff and other health care professionals.
Represents the FxHCC Clinical Nutrition Section on projects, committees and/or workgroups within the department and facility.
Collaborates with other managers in the facility to negotiate and/or make decisions on Nutrition related matters affecting clinical operations at the FxHCC.
Provides Clinical Nutrition Section-specific leadership and exercises a full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities.
Develops procedures and guidelines for Clinical Nutrition operations and monitors compliance with regulatory standards and policies and procedures.
Ensures that materials utilized in Veteran education are evidence-based, using current literature and research.
Analyzes data (i.e., event capture, clinic utilization) to recommend allocation of clinical nutrition resources.
Ensures evidence-based guidelines are integrated into clinical practice.
Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to outpatient Veterans
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:;00- 4:30 pm

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Registration. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-12 Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical)
Experience: One (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1) Knowledge of accrediting requirements in clinical nutrition to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements.
2) Skill as a nutrition expert to provide technical guidance, direction and staff development.
3) Skill in Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement and coordinate best practices.
4) Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems.
5) Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).
6) Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources.
Assignment. For supervisory assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity, difficulty, variety and b e performed by the incumbent as a major duty at least 25% of the time. Incumbent must spend 25% of more of their time providing administrative and technical supervision over staff at the full performance level or below and may supervise advanced practice and/or program coordinator Dietitian(s).

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
