This position is located in the Engineering Service of the Miami VA Healthcare System in Miami Florida. The primary objective for this position includes database and as-built architectural and utility drawing creation and maintenance as well as project design and management for all facility buildings, infrastructure, and land.
Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Documents all engineering drawings and design files both in paper and electronically.
Maintains all facility master floor plans by utilizing AutoCAD drafting and editing techniques.
Compiles data from a variety of sources and field verifies in order to accurately digitize changes to the existing floor plans.
Inputs new utility and project drawings from sketches and drawings prepared by the incumbent or by others.
Utilizes established layering schemes or creates new layers as appropriate, that are consistent with existing and AIA standards, prints and plots scaled versions of drawings using appropriate printers, color printers, and plotters, and other hardware as appropriate.
Maintains and updates the Master Utility Plans.
Record drawings and space survey of the medical center are maintained to assure an accurate and up-to-date document of using service assignment, room numbers, size, layout, and function.
Maintains the Facility Space Survey computer database.
Manages the Facility Building Service Equipment Inventory.
Coordinates with Construction and Maintenance & Operations staff to incorporate updates to the equipment database as new building service equipment is installed.
Creates drawings in support of both in-house projects, and design drawings in support of station level engineers and architect.
Serves as Contracting Officer's Technician Representative (COTR) on assigned Station/NRM/Minor level projects and inspects construction and maintenance and repair projects to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-8) in the Federal Service. Technician experience includes supervising, leading or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the (1) methods and techniques of engineering or architecture and (2) construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials. Qualifying specialized experience includes technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and Estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; Instrument Maker or Model Maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. EDUCATION: Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that is directly related to the work of the position. COMBINATION: Have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond master's degree) and specialized experience, as described above. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of sitting in one position, climbing up ladders and crawling under building and sometimes being exposed to the elements. The work involves regular walking, bending, climbing, and crawling in or around the facility and construction sites. Work hours can vary from the norm depending upon the circumstances surrounding project performance and building management system operation, which can entail night, weekend, and/or extended work hours.
