About the Position: This position is assigned to the River Operations Branch, Navigation Section and serves as an Equipment Specialist for vessels, marine equipment, and floating plants.
NOTE: This is a Term position, Not to Exceed 6 Years.
Duties
Inspects, tests, and oversees repair of various types of Marine equipment.
Serves as coordinator and liaison with Contracting as well as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) on contract actions involving Floating Plant.
Develops work schedules, prepares repair estimates, and determines labor and material requirements with asset owner/manager.
Monitors all ongoing maintenance work conducted to assure that work is completed on a timely basis.
Performs routine and emergency buys for parts and materials required for the repair of vessels and equipment.
Compiles, prepares and generates various reports, records, statistics, listings, charts and graphs, or other Preventive Maintenance (PM).
Uses knowledge of the operation and maintenance of floating plant to inspect progress and completed work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires temporary duty (TDY) travel 15% of the time.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Specialized Experience for GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal Government which included experience in the following areas: (1) Inspecting equipment in accordance with manufacture's specifications; (2) Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement; (3) Coordinating maintenance, repair and readiness of equipment/vessels; and (4) Recognizing and reporting errors, inconsistencies and other deficiencies in technical data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service GS-11.
