The primary purpose of this position, MACHINIST TOOL OPERATOR, WG-3414-08, POTENTIAL WG-3414-11, is to manufacture complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals and metal alloys through the use of conventional and/or computer numerical control machine tools involving unusual trade problems.

Duties

Manufacture complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials through the use of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools, and precision handwork. Set up and operate a variety of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments and equipment. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental (WG-08 Target WG-11) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-08). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3400 Machine Tool Work Family. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in areas that are usually noisy and dirty, and where there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; and danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines.
