About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Perform tasks that require substantial physical effort and significant multi-step manual skills. Separate, stack, carry, load/unload, assemble, and maintain a variety of equipment and material. Perform packing work to preserve or ship a wide variety of equipment, tools, materials, and other items. Utilize material handling equipment to move materials and equipment.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Successful completion of pre-placement medical examinations.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Valid, state-issued motor vehicle driver's license within one year of employment.
• Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period.
• THIS IS A TERM POSITION NOT TO EXCEED 2 YEARS. THIS APPOINTMENT MAY BE EXTENDED IN INCREMENTS OF 2 YEARS TO A MAXIMUM OF 8 YEARS. EXTENSIONS ARE NOT GUARANTEED AND ARE CONTINGENT UPON BUDGET AND WORKLOAD.
• This position may be required Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 5% of the time.

Physical Effort: Frequently lift and move equipment, components, or material weighing up to 40 pounds and may be required to lift and carry, with assistance, items weighing up to 70 pounds. Perform work on hard surfaces in areas that require frequent standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Is performed in areas varying from well lighted, heated, and ventilated to outside, unprotected areas; including areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty, and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. May be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals. In certain work situations involving hazardous materials, may be required to wear protective clothing and respirators, and other specialized protective devices, in addition to their basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses and shoes, and ear plugs).
